The perfect garden design is a work in progress. It is never finished. People, for whom, gardening is a hobby understand this, and are always in the pursuit of making improvements each year.
So, here are 5 tips to consider when designing or redesigning a garden:
#1: Review Last Year’s Mistakes
If you do make notes about what worked and didn’t, it’s a good idea to review last year’s note so as to note which plants were healthy and more importantly, which weren’t. After this, you can use a seed catalog to order for plants that can do more than withstand the onslaught but also flourish in the coming year.
#2: Mulch Your Garden Early
While it’s a common practice for some gardeners to wait to find out which self-seeding plants grow, the problem with this is it also gives the weed seedling more time to grow as well. It is definitely a good idea to mulch early even if it means losing a few self-seeders as this will save time weeding which can be used for planting instead.
#3: Plant more Fragrant Flowers
One of the problems with gardens is that sometimes the flowers have no scent at all. This is because of the focus on longer bloom periods and larger flowers in place of fragrance. If you want to plant more fragrant flowers, then it’s time to look for some old-fashioned seeds.
#4: Plant More Shrubs
Shrubs are no longer difficult to maintain. Apart from that, they are also well-textured, colorful and grow berries and flowers. A good idea would be to grow them on the borders.
