Are Your Garden Parties Remembered?
Article by Simon Barnett
When guests leave your garden parties, do you feel that they are leaving with a fantastic impression of your food, garden and hosting skills? If not, it sounds like you may be in need of help.
Hosting a successful garden party needn’t be difficult, but it does require a little bit of planning. In fact, it has this in common with pretty much any other type of party or event! So how much thought do you put into your party planning?
You may be the sort of person who likes to leave things until the very last minute. Your parties may be fun and unpredictable. Sometimes they may be fantastic, but on other occasions it’s possible that they fail rather miserably.
Introducing an element of planning doesn’t mean that you have to take the fun out of the occasion. It just means that you’ll be better prepared. In short, you’re giving yourself a better chance of hosting a great party.
Think carefully about your guests and their requirements. This is always a good starting point. It can be tempting to think up a great idea and then slot guests into the occasion. Many hosts do make this mistake. You may have done so yourself.
The problem with coming up with an idea and then hoping that your guests will enjoy it is that things can go horribly wrong. That’s because you’ll often be leaving people a long way from their comfort zone. Will your friends and family enjoy being in that situation? You’ll probably find that you’ll get a lot of different reactions.
The opposite approach involves thinking about the people that you want to join you and then taking into account their preferences. This is the sign of a thoughtful host! Pay particular attention to some seemingly boring details, such as whether you’ve got enough seats for all of your guests and how you might change your plans in the case of bad weather conditions.
Such practical considerations may not naturally occur to you, but they can make a really big difference. You’ll find that a little bit of planning of this nature can be the difference between success and failure. You’ll want your guests to enjoy themselves. You’ll also want them to know that you’ve really thought about them.
If they leave your home feeling happy and having enjoyed themselves, then you can be sure that your garden party will be remembered for all the right reasons.
