Cleaning Outdoor Garden Furniture

Article by Robert Bosch

Most people find that outdoor furniture is a great way of relaxing while enjoying the weather and nature as well. There is a variety of outdoor furniture that can be incorporated in a home so that the friends and family have a place to enjoy themselves when they visit. However, after the entertaining it is likely that the outdoor area plus the furniture will be dirty and need cleaning at regular intervals. For most people, cleaning the area where the furniture is situated is easy but when it comes to the furniture then they do not have any idea on what to do.

However, the cleaning of outdoor furniture is easy when you have the right information as well as the appropriate equipment to clean the different types of material. For the outdoor garden furniture made from wood you can use a damp cloth with oil soap to remove the dust as well as any dirt in the crevices of the wood. However, if it is winter and mildew has formed on the garden furniture then you will need to use oxygenated bleach solution. Use the solution to brush the furniture with and then rinse it all out. When the wooden outdoor furniture has dried well, then oil the surfaces with an appropriate preservative or sealant.

When cleaning plastic outdoor garden furniture you will use a solution of borax, peroxide and water in appropriate amounts. The best way to test this out is to use a small amount on the furniture to see the reaction then make the necessary adjustments. Use the solution to clean the outdoor furniture using a brush made of nylon and then rinse it out well until the solution has disappeared.

Outdoor garden furniture made from metal are the easiest to clean because all you need is soap and a bit of pressure while scrubbing for all the dirt to be removed. In case the garden furniture has any rust or the paint has peeled then you can sandpaper the particular spot and then use paint to cover it up well.

Generally, regular cleaning of outdoor wooden garden furniture will keep them in good condition for a long time especially if the material that they are made from is strong as well as durable. However, do not clean them too much as well so that they do not lose their original appearance and thus their aesthetic beauty.
