4 Industry Awards Offered For Certain Types of Plants

Becoming a plant expert isn’t easy as you think it is. It takes several years of growing different types of plants while making notes of what works and what doesn’t.

However, the fruit of all this hard work is sometimes paid in full, thanks to a number of awards that are offered to plant experts.

So, here are 4 industry awards offered for certain types of plants:

#1: Annuals & Vegetables

Annual flower and vegetables are picked by All America Selections and added to their Display gardens throughout the country every year. Some of the winners in the past are the ‘Eight Ball’ zucchini, Rudbeckia Hirta ‘Indian Summer’, ‘Bright Lights’ chard and more.

#2: Roses

For the rose growers, All America Rose Selection picks the best based on three parameters: color, bloom and disease resistance. Recently, Lady Elsie May was the winner of this contest based on excellent disease resistance, fragrant flowers and for donning the color of coral pink.

#3: Herbs

The International Herb Association picks one winner every year and it doesn’t have to be of a particular variety either. In the past few years, garlic, fennel, mint, rosemary and monarda have been honored.

#4: Perennials

Similarly, The Perennial Plant Association also picks one plant as the winner every year, and it doesn’t have to be a new introduction either. Most of the popular perennials, namely the Japanese Painted Fern, Athyrium niponicum ‘Pictum’, Phlox ‘David’,Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Karl Foerster’ among others, have won awards in the past.
